April 9, 2025 – Masters Edition
By Your Favorite Golf Guru, Shimmy
What’s good, golf junkies? The Masters is here, teeing off tomorrow, April 10th, at the cathedral of golf – Augusta National. The azaleas are popping, the vibes are pristine, and the green jacket’s calling someone’s name. This year’s field is a wild mix of heavy hitters, LIV renegades, and under-the-radar ballers. So, who’s got the shimmy to take it all? Let’s break it down, Augusta-style.
The Augusta Buzz
Ninety-five players are in the hunt this year – no Tiger (he’s out with a busted Achilles), but the stage is still loaded. Scottie Scheffler’s defending his title, Rory McIlroy’s chasing the career Grand Slam, and the LIV crew (Rahm, DeChambeau, Mickelson) is ready to stir the pot. The course is firm, the greens are slick, and the forecast’s clear after a dicey start to the week. It’s all about iron play and nerves of steel – classic Masters golf.
The Big Dogs
Scottie Scheffler (+400): The reigning champ and world No. 1 is a machine – top-10 in Strokes Gained: Total and a T-2 in Houston two weeks ago. His fade fits Augusta like a glove, and his putting’s been clutch. Back-to-back green jackets? Don’t count him out.
Rory McIlroy (+650): Rory’s swinging hot with two wins this season, and he’s reworked that driver since last year’s fade. The Masters is his white whale (0-16), but if he keeps it in the short grass and conquers the Sunday demons, he’s got a real shot.
Jon Rahm (+1400): The ’23 champ is flying under the radar after dominating LIV Golf – five top-10s in a row. His Augusta track record is filthy (four top-10s in five years pre-LIV), and that fiery passion could light up Magnolia Lane again.
Shimmy’s Spotlight: Daniel Berger (+12500)
Alright, let’s talk my guy – Daniel Berger. At +12500, he’s a longshot with a capital L, but hear me out: this dude’s got the shimmy. Berger’s been off the radar since a back injury sidelined him in ’23, but he’s back in 2025 with a vengeance – three top-25s in his last five starts, including a T-11 at Bay Hill. His game screams Augusta: No. 7 in Strokes Gained: Approach this season, a silky short game, and a putting stroke smoother than a Georgia peach. He’s never cracked the top 10 here (best finish: T-10 in 2016), but at 31, he’s got the maturity to handle Augusta’s pressure cooker. Plus, that swing’s got a shimmy that’d make me proud – compact, controlled, and ready to dance around those pines. This is my pick, folks – the ultimate dark horse with odds that could make us all rich.
Other Contenders
Collin Morikawa (+1600): Iron play so good it should be illegal – No. 1 in SG: Approach. Three straight top-10s at Augusta. He’s my safe pick if Berger’s shimmy falters.
Bryson DeChambeau (+2000): Big bopper’s got a T-6 here last year and a fifth at LIV Miami. If he tames the beast within, watch out.
Phil Mickelson (+17000): Three-time champ, sixth at LIV Miami, T-2 in ’23. Old man’s still got it – worth a flier.
Shimmy’s Prediction
I’m sticking with my gut – Daniel Berger shocks the world at +12500. He’s got the tools: pinpoint irons, a clutch putter, and that shimmy swagger Augusta secretly loves. He’ll grind his way to -10, edging out Scheffler and Morikawa in a Sunday thriller. It’s a bold call, but that’s how we roll here at Shimmy Golf. If he doesn’t pull it off, I’ll eat my visor – but I’ve got a good feeling about this one.
Let’s Talk
The Masters is golf’s greatest show, and this year’s shaping up to be a banger. What do you think – is Berger my genius pick or am I just dreaming? Drop your takes, and let’s shimmy into this week together. See you on the fairways!
Keep it loose,
Shimmy
